This utterly sublime 18th century 170m2 riad could be arguably one of the finest works of Quentin Wilbaux in Marrakech.

It is a riad truly fit for superlatives.

In every way it encapsulates the perfect traditional medina courtyard home.

All too often exaggerated cliches of authenticity and charm are bandied about regarding many riads here – without any real justification.

However – this ancient home – with all its antique detailing and splendid original Moroccan architecture – is the epitome of a classic text book riad.

The home – once the property of a royal gardener of an old Pacha – is a hidden world – centred upon its intoxicating paradise like courtyard – which is bathed in silence and the sounds of birdsong and the trickling water in the decorative marble fountain.

The sheer abundance of flowers and lush tropical potted plants there, as well as the cascades of scented climbers and citrus trees dripping fruit is dizzying.

I think the photographs say it all.

It is worth noting that the riad was until recently a popular medina rental property.

It was renovated by Quentin Wilbaux sympathetically – employing entirely traditional methods and traditional materials.

It was redesigned as a proper three bedroom family home – with a wealth of generous living spaces. However the house originally had four bedrooms – and it is certainly possible to recreate the fourth bedroom without any real trouble.

At present the riad boasts on the ground floor an atmospheric double entrance hall, a garden patio with a central fountain, a double sized bhou, two salons, a kitchen, a communal w/c, and a reserve. On the first floor is an open gallery, a second gallery, and three suites. Then on the roof terrace is a hammam, a laundry room, an elevated upper terrace and a solarium and covered dining / lounge space.

The riad is enviably situated in a prime Medina location on Moussaine – right opposite the new landmark Moussaine garden project.
