This is the iconic and utterly unique 300m2 riad that belonged to the charismatic and pioneering designer, Jacqueline Foissac.
Jacqueline Foissac was the pioneer of pisé, or Moroccan mud architecture, and was instrumental in adapting this traditional Berber building technique to contemporary architecture, thereby triggering a hippy chic, eco design revolution in Marrakech.
From the late sixties, she began creating extraordinary and elegant homes in the then desert scrub around Marrakech from compressed earth – turning bourgeois presumptions about luxury upside down.
From having lived in several of her own rustic eco-retreats, she eventually settled in the Medina in the prime district of Dar Bacha and restored this grand 300m2 in her own bold and elegant idiosyncratic style.
It is a sumptuous and lofty one storey riad with an extra-ordinarily lush and expansive mature patio courtyard.
Her design accents are ever present in the house – setting the home apart – with a wealth of bold and striking detailing in the grand yet simple Moroccan architecture.
The current owners have left the riad entirely as it was bought. It is an absolute design classic that should be preserved.
The riad is exceptionally well located with convenient parking and access. It is situated on arguably the smartest derb in the Medina.
On the ground floor it boasts a lovely entrance hall, kitchen, guardian’s room, double salon, feature seating alcove, grand suite and plenty of storage. Then on the first floor there is multi-tiered terracing offering sweeping panormaic views, a second suite and a third bedroom.
The price is 3.75m dhs.
